How to Write a Blog Post: The Definitive Guide

How it happened

I was asked to do a major update to an article that hadn’t been touched in a few years. It was up to me to determine what advice was outdated, what needed to be added, and what needed to be adjusted. I also dissected every example in the article to make sure it was still valid, updated almost all of the screenshots, and created a brand new downloadable asset: a blog post engineering checklist as a companion for the article’s advice.

How a 200-person company competes with a $160B giant in AI search

How it happened

To build this case study, I did a deep dive into Descript’s AI visibility, and how they’re accomplishing it. Using Semrush’s AI Visibility tools, I analyzed the brand: prompts, citations, mentions, and sentiment. It gave me a clear picture of what’s working in AI visibility today for SaaS brands, and I used the analysis to give solid advice to other SaaS brands who want to succeed in AI search.

How to Automate Marketing With 8 Simple Workflows

How it happened

After this one, I consider myself an automation expert. Rather than give untested advice, I built every single automation I recommend — 20+ hours of work, including the ones that failed — documented exactly how each was made, and created copy-and-use templates so readers could build their own.

Local SEO Keyword Research: 5 Steps + Free Template

How it happened

I’d never done local SEO before, so when I was asked to update this piece, I brought in an expert — my editor, who also runs a local SEO agency. I interviewed Chris to understand what local keyword research actually looks like today, then used his insights to bring the whole article up to speed for 2026.

How to Create Product-Led Content Without Sounding Like Sales (7 Examples)

How it happened

When Brooklin offered me a guest post for the Beam blog, I jumped at it. I took on a topic I’m passionate about and interviewed product marketers and fellow content folks to gather real opinions from people facing the same struggles I do. The result names the real problems with most product-led content — plus clear advice and examples of SaaS brands doing it well.

Your Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) Isn’t a Wishlist

How it happened

There’s a lot of ICP content out there, so the brief was clear: this had to be different. My angle was that most people build an ICP but never go deep enough to make it usable. So instead of a 100+ criteria checklist, I focused on four areas a team could strategically work through to build an ICP they’ll actually reference.

598% More Calls, 32% More Deals—Turns Out Sales Calls Aren’t Dead

How it happened

This piece summarized a genuinely fascinating experiment run by the Close sales team. I sat down (virtually) with the director of sales to dig into what sparked it, how they ran it, and the results — then turned that interview into an article that walked through the process, gave the reader clear takeaways, and showed how the product supported it end to end.
